Can New Jersey Devils Avoid Another Losing Streak?

New Jersey Devils slumped to another defeat in a 3-2 loss against the Maple Leafs yesterday that put pay to any hopes that the NHL team were bouncing back. While the 7-4 victory over the Rangers gave fans plenty to cheer about, it seems that there are still many things to work on ahead of Saturday’s massive game against the Capitals.

Can New Jersey Devils Avoid Another Losing Streak?

It’s been a difficult month for the Devils having gone on a three-game losing streak against the Canucks, Flames and Oilers. For much of Wednesday’s game, it seemed that the Devils might have the firepower necessary to beat the Maple Leafs. With the game tied at 2-2 at the end of the second period, it could have gone either way. But once the third goal went in for the Maple Leafs, it told the story of the season for the Devils in that they just lacked the quality necessary to get the win.

Not that it was all bad for the Devils. After all, Nico Hischier had a great game and could have easily scored more than one goal. Plus it was great to see Damon Severson get his name on the scoresheet. Other decent performances were put in by the likes of Jesper Bratt, Dougie Hamilton, and Jack Hughes, but in the end, the Devils couldn’t break through the tough Maple Leafs defense.

A bleak NHL season for the Devils

The defeat to the Maple Leafs once again has left the Devils floundering at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. While there is the chance that they might fight back to overtake the Flyers, there is still a lot of distance between these three teams and the Islanders who are 12 points ahead.

Despite the bleak outlook, there have been glimmers of hope for the Devils and some people may still use some kind of betting bonus to back the Devils to improve their form. The 2-1 win over the Ducks showed a team who can get results when it matters and the 5-3 victory over Avalanche revealed that the Devils can be a phenomenal scoring unit at times.

But on the whole, it’s been a far from satisfactory season for the Devils. Much of the blame must be placed with the head coach Lindy Ruff, but there’s an overall lack of confidence in the New Jersey camp at the moment which is reflected in the odds at many NJ sportsbooks. All of which means that the upcoming games against the Capitals could be a real trial by fire.
