Which is the largest casino in Atlantic City? Good question and one we’ve settled once and for all. Take a look below to see which Atlantic City casino dwarfs its rivals!
Atlantic City has no shortage of iconic casinos, and all of which should be able to give you awesome gaming entertainment. Some of these casinos are relatively modest, whereas others are simply massive. We’re not saying that bigger is always better, but take a look below and see why Atlantic City’s largest casino could be the best in the business!
Atlantic City is one of the most popular places for casino gaming in the whole of the US. Thanks to New Jersey’s legalization of online casino gaming in 1976, the city has enjoyed the rise of dozens of iconic casino establishments. As such it has helped put the coastal city on the map in terms of casino gaming entertainment.
However, due to New Jersey’s legalization of online casinos and a variety of other factors, some of Atlantic City’s casinos have hit hard times recently. There has been the sad loss of several legendary AC casinos such as the Sands, the Trump Plaza and the Claridge Casino and Hotel. Thankfully there are plenty more casinos in Atlantic City. Here is a quick overview of the biggest and best online gambling establishments in AC:
Borgata set up shop in Atlantic City in July 2003 and set the standard of truly massive casinos. The Tuscan-themed casino has 2,767 hotel rooms but it’s the actual gaming area that impressed us. With 3,000 gaming machines and 186 table games spread over 160,000 square feet, this is truly a beast of casino gaming entertainment.
Opened in November 1980, Harrah’s was the largest casino in Atlantic City for quite some time. There are over 2,500 hotel rooms at Harrah’s and 177,000 square feet of gaming space. This is populated by over 5,500 slot and video poker machines, as well as nearly 150 table games. Harrah’s also has one of Atlantic City’s best poker rooms with 40 tables that host some of the world’s most prestigious poker tournaments.
Hard Rock opened in the Uptown part of the city in April 1990 and it’s easily the loudest casino in Atlantic City. It features nearly 2,000 hotel rooms and isn’t short of gaming space with a total casino floor area of 167,000 square feet. Plus with an excellent sportsbook retail outlet on site, the Hard Rock will have your gambling needs covered.
Caesars has been a fixture of Atlantic City since it opened its doors in Midtown in June 1979. It’s Roman-themed decor might be an acquired taste, but it’s one of the biggest casinos in Atlantic City. With 1,141 hotel rooms and 145,000 square feet of gaming space, it’s little wonder why so many gamers flock here. Caesars is a slot gaming favorite with no less than 3,000 slot machines, and the Palace East section is well worth a look if you are into Asian casino games.
Tropicana is easily one of Atlantic City’s most atmospheric casinos. With a stylish theme based on Old Havana, Tropicana was opened in the Downbeach district in November 1981 and it has been a hit ever since then. There’s an impressive 2,364 hotel rooms here and a total gaming space of nearly 130,000 square feet. This features over 3,000 slot machines, 132 table games and an excellent sportsbook. Plus many people head to Tropicana to play at one of the impressive daily poker tournaments.
This aquatic-themed casino hotel is a relative newcomer in Atlantic City having only opened in June 2018, but the Ocean casino resort has already made a big splash. It features nearly 1,400 hotel rooms and boasts an impressive 130,000 square feet of gaming space. This is packed with 2,500 slot machines and 120 table games. While the poker room has sadly been closed down, Ocean is still one of Atlantic City’s best casino gaming destinations.
This may not be the biggest casino in Atlantic City, but Resorts could be one of the classiest. Based on the aesthetic of the ‘roaring twenties’, Resorts was opened in May 1978 and it still shines like a star in the Uptown district of the city. It features a modest 942 hotel rooms, but there’s still 100,000 square feet of gaming room here. This features all of the slots and table games that you’d expect, but it is the Platinum Place Slots games that are the signature attraction at Resorts.
Bally’s is one of the oldest casinos still standing in Atlantic City. The modernist structure opened in December 1979 and it still casts an imposing shadow over the Boardwalk. There are over 1,200 rooms in Bally’s and the overall gaming space is over 83,000 square feet. This is populated by 1,500 slot machines along with an endless range of table games like blackjack, baccarat, craps, roulette, pai gow, as well as plenty of poker variants.
Want to play at a casino that’s inspired by the Gold Rush era? Then head to the Marina and give Golden Nugget a try. With just 717 hotel rooms, it might not be the largest casino in AC, but it’s still got a gaming space of nearly 75,000 square feet. Plus we have to give credit to Golden Nugget for having an awesome entertainment complex that has hosted legends like Prince, Johnny Cash and Aretha Franklin.
OK so we’re cheating here, but you simply cannot ignore the impact that online casinos have had on Atlantic City. We could have included the Wild Wild West Casino on Pacific Avenue here, but that’s not really a true casino, and so we’re giving the nod to the dozens of online casinos currently operating in the Garden State instead. Plus we have to admit that there are only nine casinos currently operating in Atlantic City, so we were caught a little short when creating this top 10 list. So be sure to check out our online casino comparison to see which is the biggest online casino in New Jersey!
